Sunga Mkwezalamba

Sunga Mkwezalamba is a Principal at SVP, where he brings a deep commitment to scaling African startups and unlocking new pathways for innovation and investment across the continent. Originally from Malawi, Africa, Sunga’s career reflects a dynamic blend of policy expertise, entrepreneurial spirit, and a passion for impact-driven work.

He began his professional journey with the African Union, focusing on policy development and regional collaboration. During this time, he forged impactful partnerships with educational institutions across Africa to expand access to affordable education.

Sunga has since developed expertise across a range of African investment markets, including project finance, blockchain, and emerging technologies. His entrepreneurial background includes founding and operating ventures in the legal services, apparel, and food and beverage sectors, demonstrating a hands-on understanding of startup growth and sustainability.

While attending the University of Illinois—where he was also a member of the football team—Sunga led Project Africa South, a nonprofit initiative supporting women entrepreneurs throughout Africa.

His commitment to social impact is evident through his board service with several organizations, including the Learning Centre in Malawi and the Black Men Lawyers Association of Greater Chicago.

Outside of his professional work, Sunga enjoys exercise and painting.
